5 lessons from KT Tunstall

Our interview with KT Tunsall was a bit surprising. We learned loads of things we never knew about the guitar wielding lass. Here, we’ve compiled a list of the best things KT taught us for your reading delight.

1. Mum and dad didn’t know she was a singer until BRITs 2007

BRITs 2008 “was a massive highlight of my career so far. It was the first time my mum and dad really kind of understood that I was achieving anything at all.”

2. She doesn’t rate the singer/songwriter scene that birthed her career

“Singer/songwriting was very insipid and there was a lot of kind of – I’m going to kill myself, I might not kill myself, actually I’ll write a song about feeling like I want to kill myself.”

3. She thinks Leona Lewis’ song Bleeding Love could make some great adverts
“I know I shouldn’t say this but it would be brilliant if [Leona] could do something with Tampax. All this blue liquid nonsense that I’ve grown up with, it’s not like that. We need a little bit of, a little bit of reality and humour with the old tampon adverts I think so could be a fantastic partnership.”

Take That are good to buskers

“I’ve got a bit of a crush on Gary Barlow actually. Mark Owen because he gave me a quid when I was busking when I was about nineteen and then when we met again I told him that. It was before their, their kind of comeback. He said, ‘oh, it’ll be me busking soon.’ [I said,] ‘I don’t think so, Mark. You’ve had a little reunion now, you’re not going to be busking.’”

5. Richard Hawley loves bees
“I hear that he uses an unquantifiable amount of wax on his hair. This is the rumour…I mean I hope he gets that stuff free these days, I really do.”
