The Haggis Horns

Mark Ronson is a bi-coastal boy, a New Yorker and a Brit he flits between both cities. He’s added yet another to his many loyalties, Scotland. That’s because his band, well the horns section at least, all hail from that temperate clime. They’re called the “Haggis Horns” appropriately, and are and 8 piece that has traveled with Ronson since before he recorded his album. They’re old hat at the BRITs, they performed with Corinne Bailey Rae last year at the awards.

They’ve got another connection to Corinne; one of their saxophonists is her hubby, Jason Rae. He’s been playing trumped since he was a wee lad, for so long he can’t rightly remember why he was inspired to pick it up in the first place. He’s passionate about jazz and funk, though he found it in an unusual way.

“The only record I had growing up was Michael Jackson’s “Off the Wall.” You don’t think of Michael Jackson and funk, but that album has tonnes of funk and horns. Its all I listened to.”
