ITV to broadcast BRITs Icon Award

Multi BRIT Award and Grammy winning global superstar, Sir Elton John CBE will be honoured in a special event to be aired on the September 13th on ITV. The BRITs ICON Award will be presented to this music legend whose achievements include, 35 gold and 25 platinum albums, selling more than 250 million records worldwide and produced the biggest selling single of all time, 'Candle In The Wind 1997'.
 
The first ever BRITs Icon Award will be presented by Dermot O’Leary. This TV special will include a live performance from Sir Elton of some of his best-loved songs as well as new material from his forthcoming album 'The Diving Board', combined with a candid interview and a special guest appearance, the show will be a spectacular tribute to his remarkable journey to become a revered British musical icon.
 
The BRITs ICON Award will become part of the established family of BRIT Awards, and celebrated at a separate stand-alone event each year. It will be presented only to iconic artists whose writing, recording and performances set them apart as having made a lasting impact on the nation’s culture, recognising the very highest level of British music achievement.
