Goldierocks - BRITs 2011 blog - Part 3

So the BRITs is only next week! And I’ve furiously been trying to get red carpet ready. I loved Lily Allen’s vintage gown last year & Bat For Lashes’ extravagant animal claw style jewellery.

Luckily I have the skills of my stylist friend Jessica Hannan on hand to help me find the most perfect outfit for the big night. I’ve chosen vintage Christian Dior couture (you’ll have to wait till the night itself to see my dress in its full glory!) but here are Jessica’s top tips for capturing my style & how to look spectacular for any glam occasion.

1. ERGONOMIC DRESSING
Sam loves to wear ‘ergonomic’ clothes when DJing, she throws herself around a lot, so anything with ‘wings’ like vintage Japanese kimonos, feather capes - Topshop do a really good one on their online shop

2. GET A TRADEMARK
Sam’s amazing hair is her trademark, it’s so pretty, she can get away with wearing really gothy edgy designs and still not look too scary! I love Aqua for directional dresses that make sure you stand out. They have a shop in London and Leeds and make red carpet dresses at affordable prices.

3. RAVE ON
At the BRITs, Sam interviews some of music’s biggest stars, so she has to stand out so celebs can see her for that all important interview, but not upstage anyone! (So no Lady Gaga-esque accessories! ) This new brand Smiley is great for that. They make really cool slouchy t-shirt dresses, but with their trademark ‘acid house style’ Smiley faces on the back, great for a 1990s rave look!

4. PHOTO FINISH
My top tip for Sam and anyone doing a hectic event like the BRITs, is focus on one really strong piece, like a statement dress, then stick to bare legs, minimal make-up and plain shoes, too many accessories can look confusing in pictures.

5. POP!
A big trend for Summer is introducing a POP of colour somewhere on your outfit. Whether that is dip dying your hair Nicki Minaj style, or getting a day-glo manicure at cult nail salon WAH nails in Topshop Oxford circus. If you want to do your nails yourself, try Model's Own nail colours, they have some of the brightest pigments on the high street.

I am a fashion writer and stylist; I first met Goldierocks about five years ago, out clubbing at one of her legendary parties, and have always loved her style. I first worked with Sam on an ethical fashion book I assisted on in 2007, called Green is The New Black, written by Tamsin Blanchard, Style Director of The Saturday Telegraph Magazine. Sam wrote a section for the book on her favourite ‘green’ festivals and parties. Most recently I wrote a feature for Stella Magazine on cool girl DJs and their style, so I interviewed Sam along with Leigh Lezark and The Broken Hearts. When I heard Sam was presenting for The BRIT Awards again this year, I jumped at the chance to help her get some red carpet worthy outfits. “- Stylist, Jessica Hannan
