Emeli Sande

"I have finally chosen what to wear to The BRITS"

Fortunate enough to arrive at this year's BRIT Awards with MasterCard ceremony safe in the knowledge she has already won an award, Emeli Sande is one of the big names at this year's BRITs.

Following her solo chart breakthrough in 2011 with singles 'Heaven' and 'Daddy', Emeli was named the 2012 recipient of the Critics' Choice award at the end of last year. We spoke to the BRITs winner live on Twitter in the build-up to the BRITs 2012 and found out who she hoped to one day write for, whether she was penning tracks for Christina Aguilera and the newly-reformed original Sugababes and what animal she would shrink to keep as a pet ...

Afternoon @emelisande! Looking forward to seeing you at The BRITs next Tuesday... Are you all set for our Twitter interview ('twinterview'?)
Yes all set, lets do it!

From @BRIT_Awards: What are you looking forward to most about next week's BRITs?
Enjoying the incredible live line-up and collecting my Critics' Choice award.

From @Mollie_Watson: Have you decided what to wear to the ceremony? Can you give us any hints?
Yes! I finally sorted it last week :) It's pretty simple but the perfect dress for me.

From @BRIT_Awards: Having already won Critics' Choice, does this mean you can relax more at The BRITs ceremony?
Yes I suppose so! Still excited to see what happens with British Breakthrough award.

From @SophieSwans: Who do you want to sit next to at the BRIT Awards?
I want to sit next to my family and the team that's supported me from day one.

From @BRIT_Awards: Who do you most want to see take home a BRIT Award next week?
I would love to see Ed Sheeran go home smiling!

From @sadiesjogren: You've sung with some amazing people. Who would you most like to duet with in the future?
There are so many people I'd love to work with, its a great time for music. I'd love to work with Andre 3000 one day.

From @JJess_Merrick: What is your favourite song from your debut album Our Version Of Events?
It's impossible to chose one! It changes every day. Today I love 'River'.

From @ChersLittleDiva: What inspires your lyrics? Are the tracks on your album based on personal experience?
I'm inspired by great conversation and yes everything I wrote about is from my own experiences or feelings.

From @JessieJLoveeer: Apart from your own tracks, what is your current favourite song?
Current favourite song... Hmmm... I love 'Last time' by Labrinth.

From @BRIT_Awards: Who would you most like to have record a song you've written?
Someone I've admired since I was young, writing for Stevie Wonder or Grace Jones would be crazy.

From @BRIT_Awards: Will you still balance songwriting for others with your own solo career?
I'd love to continue writing for other people. I love it. I just need to get better at time management ;)

From @BRIT_Awards: Who are your favourite songwriters?
Thats difficult! A part from people who are also artists, my favourite songwriters are Diane Warren and Walter Afanasieff.

From @sarahlouisemcm: What advice would you give to any budding songwriters in the UK?
Write about what you know. Usually the most ordinary experiences make the most beautiful songs.

From @BRIT_Awards: Now you are enjoying mainstream success, how are you finding life in the spotlight?
It's still something I'm trying to get used to, but it's great to get recognition after such a long time working behind the scenes.

From @lolliepop33: You have great hair - and yes, we are flirting slightly here. How long does it take to style it?
Haha! Usually about 30 mins :)

From @CAguileraPT: Is it true you are working on Christina Aguilera's next album?
I don't think so, but I'd love to.

From @BRIT_Awards: While we on the subject, can you tell us anything about your work with the original Sugababes?
Yes. I've been writing for them with @NaughtyBoyMusic it's all sounding fantastic.

From @iJessieJQuotes: If you could shrink any animal and keep it as a micro-pet, what would it be?
It would be an elephant. They're pretty smart.

From @beccawheeler_: What are you most looking forward to in 2012?
Well the Brits are going to be great and I'm really looking forward to my UK/Europe tour and of course now the album is finally out!

A massive thank you to @emelisande for taking the time to answer our Twitter questions. See you on the Red Carpet next week...
See you there!
