British Breakthrough: The Story of Laura Mvula

Each week we’re going to look at the stories of the British Breakthrough Act Nominees. You can help decide the winner by voting for your favourite.

First up is Laura Mvula who’s had a big year since being the Critics’ Choice runner up just over a year ago…

First time we heard Laura
She released her debut EP, She, in November 2012 introducing herself to the world and receiving critical acclaim.

Tipped from the start
Just a month later Laura was nominated for the 2013 Critics’ Choice Award – an event she described as ‘unreal’.

A career blooming
Sing to The Moon was Laura’s debut album, which she released in March 2013. Thanks to singles like Green Garden it went into the Top 10 in the UK Album Charts.

Flowering in summer
Thousands enjoyed her music by lying down in fields under the sun last year at festivals like Glastonbury.

Shooting to prominence
In less than a year since she launched her debut album, Laura has been nominated for British Breakthrough and British Female Solo Artist at the BRITs 2014.

Laura has been nominated for British Breakthrough Act along with Bastille, Disclosure, London Grammar and Tom Odell, and you can vote for your favourite to win a BRIT Award at London’s O2 Arena on February 19.
