With BRITs Critics' Choice: The Album now available to buy in all good retailers, and the extended version on iTunes, we look at those who despite being nominated for the Award couldn't quite win it and have gone on to create some incredible tracks and provide lifetime music memories.2008 – Foals and Duffy
The first year of the Critics’ Choice saw both Foals and Duffy nominated alongside Adele. Both have enjoyed incredible success, with one particular highlight being Foals transforming the usually sedate Royal Albert Hall into a frenzied rock amphitheatre last March.
2009 – Little Boots and White Lies
Little Boots has wowed the world since her Critics’ Choice nomination with her incredible live show which includes a Tenori-on and Stylophone; while White Lies have released three albums which have all charted in the Top 5 - their debut To Lose My Life… going to No. 1.

Both of these acts were unlucky to miss out to Ellie Goulding at the turn of the decade but despite this have still managed to cement themselves as household names. Marina & the Diamonds is currently working on her third album, as are Delphic who will be hoping to top the success of Good Life which was chosen as one of the official tracks of the London 2012 Olympics.
Both James Blake and The Vaccines have used their Critics’ Choice nominations as springboards for massive success. But it isn’t just high quality records which connect the two – their live performances are something which have captured the imaginations of many.
The Critics’ Choice nominees in 2012 saw their albums reach the Top 5 during the year, and now we’re eagerly awaiting the follow ups. Could they come in 2014?
In the past 12-months AlunaGeorge and Laura Mvula have proved the Critics’ right, and shown why they deserved to be included in this Award which already carries with it so much history and expectation. What the future may hold for them we just need to wait and see.
