Critics' Choice: The Story of Tom Odell

To celebrate the release of BRITs Critics' Choice: The Album on January 6, we're looking back at all the past winners of the Critics’ Choice Award and how their careers have progressed – and 2013 brought with it the first male winner, Tom Odell.

A dream come true
Tom had only released one EP when he found out he was nominated for the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award, which overwhelmed him as he explained when we spoke to him at the time.

Exclusive access

He was handed his Critics’ Choice Award by Emeli Sandé at the BRITs Nominations Party, and at the Awards themselves, he gave this moving rendition of Hold Me for the celebrities in the Backstage Bar.

Top of the pile
Just as he was walking on stage to perform at Glastonbury Festival, Tom found out his debut album Long Way Down had gone straight to No. 1 in the UK Album Chart, inspiring this awesome performance.

Playing for an icon
Elton John received the first ever BRITs Icon award last year, and to honour this feat Tom covered Tiny Dancer at the legendary Roundhouse in Camden, London.
