BRITs 2016 British Artist Video of the Year nominees

British Artist Video of the Year nominations announced

When it comes to British Video, you decide the winner! Once the vote opens, one act will be eliminated each week until just five remain for the ultimate vote off on the night of the ceremony. The winner will then be decided via a live social vote during TV broadcast on 24 February.

This year’s shortlist is a veritable who’s who of British music - hardly surprising considering the 10 videos are selected based on the number of YouTube views. Little Mix receive their first ever BRIT nomination for their track, ‘Black Magic’, a track which spent three weeks at No. 1 in the UK singles chart. It’s also nominated in the British Single category.

Also in the running, and all hoping to secure your vote, are four previous BRITs Critics’ Choice Award winners; Adele, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and Sam Smith, plus 2015’s Critics’ Choice Award nominees Years & Years.

Chart-topping Scottish DJ Calvin Harris has been nominated seven times previously yet he is still to win his first BRIT Award! His nomination for British Video is one of three this year; he’s also been nominated for British Single and British Male Solo Artist. Maybe 2016 will be the year that Harris finally takes home a BRITs trophy.

Last year, Ed Sheeran won two BRITs from a total of four nominations. The two awards that he didn’t manage to win were British Artist Video of the Year and British Single, so it looks like he’s back in 2016 to try and claim the ones that got away.

This is the second time DJ and producer Naughty Boy has been nominated for the BRIT Award in this category. In 2014, his video for ‘La La La’ lost out to One Direction’s ‘Best Song Ever’.

Speaking of One Direction, the band can boast a total of five BRITs wins, including the award for this category in both 2014 and 2015, plus twice winning the BRITs Global Success award (in 2013 and 2014). Can they retain their British Video title this year? You decide.

Voting for the British Video BRIT Award will open during the nominations launch show tonight (14 January).

The BRIT Awards 2016 take place at London’s O2 Arena on 24 February and will be broadcast live on ITV at 8pm GMT. See all the nominations here.
