Bob Geldof announces Band Aid 30

Sir Bob Geldof has announced a fourth version of Band Aid charity single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ in aid of the Ebola crisis. 

Geldof, who was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award at The BRIT Awards 2005, made the announcement at a press conference today (10 November) alongside long-term collaborator Midge Ure.   

Band Aid 30 will feature a star-studded line-up of artists including many previous BRITs winners. Adele, One Direction, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and U2’s Bono have all been confirmed, as well as Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Emeli Sandé, Elbow, Sam Smith and Bastille. More acts are expected to be announced in the coming days.

This year marks 30 years since Bob Geldof and Midge Ure wrote the festive song, which was released to raise money for victims of the 1984 Ethiopian famine.

The single artwork will be provided by renowned artist Tracey Emin, who is also designing the statue for The BRITs 2015. 

The single is set to be released on 17 November.
