RAYE wins Mastercard Album of the Year

Congratulations to RAYE for winning Mastercard Album of the Year!

What a night the R&B sensation has had. She has won six awards out of her seven nominations at the BRIT Awards 2024.

Earlier in the evening, she performed a medley of her popular songs, including her powerful ballad, 'Ice Cream Man', TikTok sensation 'Prada', and this year's BRIT Awards Song of the Year, 'Escapism' all while accompanied by a choir.

During a sit-down chat with Maya Jama, The BRIT school alum shouted out her school teacher, Stuart Worden. Little did she know, he would be presenting her the Mastercard Album of the Year award just minutes later.

"The BRIT school has looked after so many of our students." the principal said, having been with the school since 1994. As he announced RAYE as the winner, the singer burst into tears, shaking her head in disbelief.

To accept the award, the emotional singer brought her grandmother, Agatha, onto the stage. The pair embraced as RAYE thanked her producers, her grandmother, who she says stays up until 3 am to pray for her and her sisters.

"You just don't understand what this means to me," she said before bursting into tears

"I'm so proud of this album. I'm in love with music - all I ever wanted to be was an artist, and now I'm an artist with the Album of the Year!"

Throughout the night, other artists have shared their support of the London-based artist, including Charlie XCX and BRIT Awards 2024 Global Icon, Kylie Minogue.

"This was RAYE's night," said presenter, Maya Jama.

Other albums that just missed out on the prestigious prize were, 'The Ballad of Darren' from Blur, 'Beautiful and Brutal Yard' from JHus, 'NO THANK YOU' from Little Simz, and 'Heavy Heavy' from Young Fathers.
